- We take stuff that people call waste, mainly animal waste, a lot of poop, a lot of bedding materials like straw and hay, and we turn them into something that every gardener dreams of.
It's compost.
I'm George Adams at the North Carolina Zoo, and I'm the compost operator.
We are dedicated to taking as much waste as we can.
We're gonna turn it into the best compost you can imagine.
We do that by getting the right mix of materials.
We make them into a pile that we start to turn, introduce oxygen into it because it heats up the pile, raise those temperatures up so that the bad things break down and it's going to allow the right things to go in there that are going to turn it into finished compost.
